'Gua' means scraping and 'Sha' means redness

The art of Gua Sha has been practiced for thousands of years as a healing technique to improve skin complexion and tone. It is an incredibly relaxing treatment that is performed using light strokes, acupressures and frictions on the surface of the skin in the direction of the lymph nodes. The tools used to perform Gua Sha have their own therapeutic properties depending on the type of crystal or stone used.

Jade - has cooling properties and is great for reducing puffiness and inflammation

Rose Quartz - has an affinity with the heart chakra and is very calming and soothing

Bian Stone - will help improve microcirculation and has healing and rejuvenating properties.

Gua Sha helps the skin to be more efficient by working on the lymphatic system to clear stagnation and cellular waste. Creating movement within the skin encourages fresh blood circulation, oxygen and nutrients. This influx of nutrients will plump the skin and promote the production of collagen and elastin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The light pressures and frictions from the Gua Sha tools work to reduce inflammation in the facial tissues and create a healing response to restore a more youthful tone and dewy glow to the skin.

Gua Sha also works to retrain and release deep tension in the muscles of the face and neck by smoothing the fascia (connective tissue) that connects the skin and muscles to the facial structures. This will create a de-puffing, lifting and sculpting effect around the contours of the face and jawline.

With regular treatments, Gua Sha will improve the overall function of the skin and help manage many skin concerns; deep lines and wrinkles, sagging skin, rosacea, acne, scarring, pigmentation, dark circles and puffiness around the eyes.

* If you have recently had botox, fillers or any other facial procedure it is important to wait at least 4 weeks before having a Gua Sha facial.
